I notices how vastly plastic waste was being generated around and how it was harming the environment enormously, I hence decided to do something about it, starting from my home itself. I thought of using waste plastic bottles and containers which can’t be reused anymore and planting a mini garden on my terrace.
LO 2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The challenging part for me was learning the process as I had no idea of how gardening is done so learning was very exciting. so it wasn’t a challenge but a great learning experience for me. Gardening is a very basic skill everyone should at least have a brief knowledge about it also it is very important to learn new skills so that you grow and learn about new things which will certainly help you in the future someday.
LO 4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
I daily used to water them regularly without fail using a spray bottle. So commitment was required and personally, I struggle with this a lot hence I set up reminders to help me remember which I also started to use in other activities such as classes, studies and etc.
LO 6-Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Each year we know tons of plastic go to waste and the amount of pollution taking place is also very high because of the factories and new infrastructure nobody is taking care of the trees being cut or the plants. As citizens, we can see how many diseases are being spread and freshwater or oxygen is decreasing so we should take small steps to prevent this and aim for something big. we know the amount of plastic being thrown away in dump yards and how much time they take to decompose but instead if we reuse it for a better cause it definitely benefits us and our healthy most importantly. While I was on the terrace gardening one of my neighbors came up there and asked me a few questions and was really happy to know what I am doing she also contributed and gave me some of her plastic waste which I used.
LO 7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Global warming, pollution, deforestation, and many more significant issues were involved in this experience that needed to be addressed. This ethical issue certainly affects all of the living beans on the planet. I feel doing this experience was an eye-opener as it is not that time taking or difficult and everyone can do this if they have the knowledge which will have a great impact.
