PLAYDAY WITH SPECIAL KIDS

We may agree or not but somewhere we all know how privileged we all are. Most of us have no problem with our physical body like our hands or leg are working properly but there are some kids who have severe issues with their physical bodies and they really have no choice but to live with it but even with these issues, their smiles capture our heart with a small activity we did with them. My goal was to spend quality time with the kids and have a fun planned day that they will never forget. We all love painting so we thought of creating a wall painting with them and then followed it up with a few games and music.

LO 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

For me, the most challenging part was to communicate with the kids as I had no clue of how can I make them be comfortable with me and talk to me. Now if I get a chance I won’t be so nervous or it won’t be a huge challenge as I have done it once now so I know but back then it was the first time I was interacting with the kids. I have never done anything similar before but I would love to do this again in the future.

I feel that I learned how to talk to new people and make friends in general which would certainly help in my future that is why it was important for me to take this challenge

LO 5-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This activity was performed which a bunch of students and kids which meant that all ideas and perspectives have to respect so we all took inputs from everyone and incorporated them into the final painting we made which was actually pretty fun interacting with so many people and knowing their creative energy.

Generally performing group is not my forte as I like doing and having things all myself but this time it was different and I tried to understand each one’s point of view. I understood it is not that difficult to work in groups but more productive as you have more brains working on a single idea. As I mentioned this time I actually enjoyed working but it was my first time interacting with special kids which was a bit tricky as I had no idea how to talk to them and how will they react so I was very nervous but with time it became so normal and lively. Working in groups is an essential element of life as we all at some point in time have to work with different kinds of people whom we aren’t fond of but we will have no choice in choosing hence working collaboratively is a key element to learn and practice. As a group, we divided the parts of the painting into segments and distributed them amongst the kids. Which increased the efficiency and the work were performed peacefully.

LO 6-Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

yes, Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

This issue is not at all addressed and a lot of people don’t even think of it as an important global issue, as a society some people are not even comfortable around them. The issue that has to be addressed is that these kids are also normal beings but they are not treated like all the rest others. They are separated from the rest. Spending time with them made me realize how excluded they might feel on day to day basis because they don’t do all the activities a teenager performs their social life is very different than ours which also affects their mental health and giving them the attention they deserve or at least respect is the least we could do. Knowing about this issue had widened my horizon of how I look at things and I have realized there are so many huge problems than the ones we crib about in day-to-day life and forget how privileged we are whether physically, financially, or mentally.

LO 7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

as a society, it’s our responsibility that everyone is treated fairly and no biases are there as everybody has the right to enjoy and live there to the fullest so taking responsibility we made the kids have fun games and paintings session.

I never realized how different their lives our from us and the effort needed to make it simple for them but after this saw how still they were so happy and enjoyed every bit of it hence it changed my perspective.

I believe we showcased the learner profiles reflective as we reflected on how different and unique their lives are and why we should spend at least one day or 2 to make them feel lively and happy. secondly, we showcased communicators as we tries our best to create good communication between all of us and a very positive vibe flowing throw which would help them open up to us and the vent could be a success. The highlight of the event was when all the kids were smiling and playing around feeling at home, I felt so good and I would love to have one more session in the future.
