Basketball- Activity

I have been playing basketball since 5th grade. I have loved playing basketball ever since. Due to the current pandemic, I have been distant from basketball or any other sports or physical activity as such. In order to gain my physical fitness, I decided to play basketball on a regular basis in my society and at school. I wanted to improve my skills in basketball, increase my shooting range and learn new shooting skills and styles. Side by side I also wanted to develop my strength. Due to lockdown, I wasn’t able to practice, I lost grip on my skills and techniques which I wanted to brush up again. I joined classes and continued for 3 months. I organized my schedule accordingly and trained for an hour thrice a week.

My advantages were that I had a lot of experience with this game and was familiar with the majority of the methods and skills. I’ve had a lot of practice as well, but the weakness in this case is the inability to practice the game due to the pandemic. My shooting range was one of my weaknesses. I couldn’t make shots from the 3-point line which I focused on improving. Basketball taught me the importance of physical and mental strength. Through conditioning and training I have developed strength, which has improved my speed, agility and endurance on the court. Mentally, I improved my resilience and focus, and learned how to manage my emotions and stay calm in pressure situations.

The most difficult aspect of this experience was the fitness component, but because I practiced regularly, I was able to regain my fitness and catch up on my game speed. After a lot of practice, I could see my shooting range expanding. All of the skills I’ve learned will undoubtedly benefit me in the future, and I’ll be able to use them as I learn new sports.One of the biggest challenges I faced in basketball was improving my shooting accuracy. Through consistent practice and feedback from my coaches, I was able to improve my technique and become a more reliable shooter. to better defend against

To prepare for basketball games and practices, I take the initiative to set specific goals and create a training plan to reach those goals. In addition to developing specific skills such as shooting and ball handling, you will also learn about conditioning and fitness exercises. 

(L4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences)

I tried my best to stay consistent and regularly play basketball in my society. This was nostalgic which made it easier for me to do and I was reminded of all the fun I had playing before the pandemic.

Basketball is a team sport and I learned the importance of communication, cooperation and teamwork. I communicate with my teammates on the pitch to make sure everyone is on the same page and we work together to reach our goals. They also support and encourage their teammates and recognize their strengths and contributions to the team. 

LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Basketball has taught me to make ethical decisions on and off the court. I will strive to demonstrate fairness, respect and sportsmanship in my conduct by treating opponents, teammates, coaches and officials with dignity and respect. I am also aware of the impact my actions have on the wider community and strive to be positive role models on and off the pitch.
