Learning outcome 1 (Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth):
Before starting to build my PC, I tried to look for tutorials, and specification guides, so I could understand the whole process and create a working Desktop. I chose this activity because creating and owning a high-end Computer has been my dream since I was very young, I was able to use this an opportunity to finally own a PC.
Learning outcome 2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process):
This experience was a challenge for me because the parts I needed to create my build were very expensive due to the pandemic, the demand was incredibly high, and there was a shortage of most parts. Convincing my parents to let me order everything was also a challenge, I had to overcome. Since I haven’t really worked with any mechanical parts before, I had to read and watch many guides before I could start gathering my parts. After understanding the process, I was able to start ordering my parts.
Learning outcome 3 (Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience):
This experience required a lot of planning and focus. From the research about how to create a PC and what each part does, to creating the Desktop itself. I was able to plan the process and by doing that I was able to create my PC with little to no help.
Learning outcome 4 (Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences):
I have watched almost every video on YouTube, this did not require much motivation due to my interest in building my own pc, though it required a lot of patience, waiting months for the parts to arrive and then building it took more than a few days. Due to many occasions, I could not work on it nonstop, I had to wait for every part to arrive before I could begin. Watching a couple of my friends also begin creating their own computers drove me to more successfully enjoying the whole process.
Learning outcome 6 (Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance):
Through the process of building my own high-end PC, I have become more aware of the environmental impact of technological consumption. The demand for new and advanced technology, including computer parts, has increased drastically in recent years, resulting in a rise in electronic waste. I have realized that this issue is a global one and that I can make a difference by being a responsible consumer. Therefore, I have committed to properly disposing of any electronic waste and reusing or repurposing old parts whenever possible. Additionally, I have started researching and considering eco-friendly alternatives when purchasing new parts for future builds. I believe that it is essential for individuals to take responsibility for their actions and consider the impact of their consumption on the planet. By engaging with this issue, I hope to contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
I have always been passionate learning about new advanced technology, how it works and how it is created. This activity taught me about the inner parts of smart computer, and how managing all the parts is very hard, since even if one tiny part fails the entire PC will not work.
Thinker, I will be developing this skill as I will have to create a plan and think the whole process through, without a full process, the whole pc might fail and it may cause in short circuit causing damage to all the parts. Inquirer since I will have to gather all the parts necessary by inquiring with other shop keepers.
