Exprience 7 – Participating in MUN

MUN is an event where students from across the city come together to debate and discuss on different topics. I’ve had never been to a MUN before and this was an unforgettable experience for me. This is an event where I can meet new people and we can debate on the latest and biggest issues going around the world with debates we get to hear different perspectives, opinions, solutions, problems, and more. All of which help shape better leaders.

LO’s:

L1 (Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth)

There are different committees within MUN, I was in the most heated community which is Lok Sabha, here we had to discuss the general problems and solutions of our country and defend our party. I was one of the members of the ruling party so we had to be thorough with all the points as we are the central government of the largest democratic country of the world. Even the smallest mistakes can turn the tables on you. We had to be very careful with our research. During this experience I understood how that I laked good research skills which led to having a huge negative impact on me and my party, as this was my first MUN I want familiar with how much content is needed, what quality of content should be presented and various other factors. As this was a 2-day event I understood my mistake and the area that I had to work upon. During this event I also understood my strength which was communication, this was a key factor to the debate, I was confident, loud, precise, and clear, This helped me in making my points loud and clear to everyone present.

L2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills)

MUN was a whole new event for me which was a challenge in itself, being new to the event I was not aware of how things work there, the amount of background research required and so much more, during the whole MUN Iearned that research is what determines which party wins the debate, and not any research, valid, quantitative and qualitative. Getting information that is useful was the biggest challenge I faced, but I learned how to get the required research, how to use keywords to find what we really are looking for, and tips for experienced people I met and this is how I overcame the challenge.

L3

MUN is an event where participants are divided in groups which replicates Indian politics. We are given different topics of discussions that will take place during the actual date, we are given these topics 1 week prior to prepare. There is a lot of need of time in this as the topics could have different members of the party targeted and with good preparation there can be facts that help defend the party and the people in the party also giving points to oppose

L4 (Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience)

MUN is a huge deal, and the research required for it takes a lot of time I had to commit time towards MUN so I can have presentable information and research for the debate. I had to at least give an hour daily to get research that is valid and useful to me for more than 2 weeks. Without all this time that I gave and dedicated towards MUN, I wouldn’t have been able to participate in debates as I wouldn’t have points to speak about.

L5 (Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively)

In MUN we are grouped with people who are from the same party and there are 2 other groups that were the opposing parties. Some of my party members, I never knew them before MUN, this debate is not what one person can win. The whole group has to come up with points, arguments, counter arguments which decides the winner. I had to coordinate with each other, because if one of the member of the party is targeted it effects the whole party, and everyperson is giving a different politiciajn, so we all had to do our own backgrounnd research. If one did not do good research or non we could have lost the debate. And working in the group means we get more research and work done in less time thats why colabration was a very important part of this exprience.

L6 (Engagement with issues of global significance)

MUN is where we disscuss and debat on issues that take place around the wold. In this MUN we all got to know about events and facts that we were previously were unaware of. Researching on them, debating, giving our opnions and perspecves opens our eyes for not known all of these before from issues relating to girls not safe in a country to wars and trade wars.
