Girl Up Surat is a movement to educate, empower and elevate girls, by youth around the world. In partnership with the United Nations, this chapter of Girl Up will provide a platform for girls to stand up for each other, speak up for programs that help them thrive, and rise up as a community of advocates striving to change the world for good.
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
For this CAS experience, I was a member of a UN driven club in Surat, someone online had been recruiting members for various positions and out of spite I had decided to interview. Once knowing that I had been selected I went along for further meetings and came across a group of adults who were at a stable position in their lives. A group of random mutual people came along to support this cause, people were selected and allocated based on their strengths and skills and were introduced amongst each other. Through 4 meetings, everyone was comfortable and the future of the club had been discussed, and there were already events lined up for us to announce the start of our club.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
GirlUp Surat as a movement already recognises that empowering girls is critical to achieving gender equality and addressing many global challenges such as poverty, hunger, and lack of access to education. Through their partnership with the United Nations, Girl Up Surat is actively working towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN, which include gender equality, quality education, and reduced inequalities. By providing a platform for girls to stand up for each other, speak up for programs that help them thrive, and become advocates for change, Girl Up Surat is contributing to the global efforts to empower girls and women. Girl Up Surat’s work also addresses the issue of systemic discrimination and gender-based violence, which affects girls and women worldwide. By empowering girls to speak out against these injustices, Girl Up Surat is contributing to the global movement to end gender-based violence and promote gender equality.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
As a movement that aims to educate, empower and elevate girls, it is likely that they place a strong emphasis on promoting ethical values and behavior. Girl Up Surat, is committed to upholding ethical principles such as human rights, social justice, and environmental sustainability, influenced by the UN’s aim of following SDG’s. Girl Up Surat is likely to prioritize ethical considerations in their activities and initiatives. This may include promoting diversity and inclusivity, respecting cultural differences, and ensuring that their actions do not harm others or the environment.
