Feeding Stray Dogs

Starvation is a serious problems when it comes to stray animals in India. Annually more than 10,000 stray animals die due to starvation. We started a campaign where we tried to find volunteers and with the help of them we fed stray dogs and are going to follow the same. We approached a society called Poddar Avenue, where they recently allowed stray dogs to enter in their society. Then we approached the people who live there and out of which a man called Sanjay Daswani took the complete responsibility to feed them every single day with proper nutritious food. We decided that we will go on weekends to feed them because it isn’t realistically possible for anyone of us to go there and feed them every single day.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

We were a team of 3 people, we planned the entire process and how will we manage everything. Initially we went to approach the society whether we can feed dogs over there or not because recently around 3 months back they became one of the few societies in Surat which allow stray dogs to enter. As it wasn’t possible to feed them everyday by ourselves we asked a society resident to feed those dogs everyday, and he approached us after he got the news and now feeds those dogs twice a day. We have been going for the past 4 weekends and are planning to continue the same, without working collaboratively none of it would’ve been possible.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

This is a serious problem as more than 10,000 stray animals die each year due to starvation. It could lead to severe hygiene issues too as this insane amount of deaths of strays animals nearby could even cause severe illness or infections too. So we decided to feed the most number of stray animals we could.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

This experience could have even backfired at us, there is no complete assurance when it comes to stray animals that they won’t hurt us so just in case, initially we used to maintain safe distance before giving them food and even got them vaccinated completely, so incase if they bite anyone there will only be a small wound and it won’t be a long term issue. We made sure that we a providing them healthy and nutritious food all the time or else they could have suffered with malnutrition.
