Decoration in Swapperstop event

The Swapperstop event was held at Fountainhead school and organized by our fellow Business management teachers. In order to address the issue of sustainability they conducted this eco-friendly event where people can swap their clothes, books, accessories, and the like for pre-loved materials.  The main slogan for this was “Reduce – Reuse – Recycle – Relive” and every participant addressed the same. I was in charge of the decoration team and contributed my time and efforts in creating various posters, decoration hangings, etc. I collaborated with other team members and helped with any decorations possible.

Learning outcome 4:
Show commitment to and perseverance in the CAS experience

Commitment and perseverance was quality that every contributor to the management team maintained. Since we had to manage to decorate venues in a short amount of time, none of the team members lacked in their tasks. They managed to execute the event with a sense of commitment, we were all very excited to see how the event would eventually turn out so we were all motivated to complete our assigned tasks and come up with solutions to the problems that occurred. Our commitment and perseverance helped us to execute the event efficiently.

Learning outcome 5:

Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Apart from me, another team worker who was having difficulty with a particular task like making dangling from a newspaper or sketching particular images or slogans, we all helped each other and collaborated with each of our skills to come up with creative ideas for the problems we faced. The lack of resources made it difficult for us to manage although, we all recognized skills that each member held and divided up tasks equally to create decorations appropriate for the theme of the event. Hence, working collaboratively and recognizing each other’s skills helped the event turn out successfully.

Learning outcome 6:

Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.

The whole motive for this event to take place was to address sustainability issues. even the volunteers of the event contributed by donating books, newspapers, bags, etc. As a member of the decoration committee, we decided upon a theme that was relevant to this event and decided to make the best out of the waste that was available to us. We were creative enough to make eco-friendly decorations using used paper, old newspapers, waste clothes, etc.

Overall takeaway:
Being a part of the decoration team helped me to improve my skills overalls, like communication, thinking, and open-minded because with a focused goal of creating eco-friendly decorations and with a limited amount of resources available to use, we made the best out of the waste in a limited time and collaborated with each other and contributed equally.
