Decoration in Garba Fest

I was given the opportunity to contribute to the decoration of the Garba fest held at Fountainhead school. It was a traditional event hosted by my fellow classmates to celebrate the Navratri Festival with students and teachers. It allowed me to collaborate with other members of the decoration committee and put my ideas for the theme forwards and guide people accordingly. Along with that, I found an opportunity to dance the Garba which I’ve been fascinated with ever since I could dance, after the pandemic this was the first time I was able to do the Garba. It helped me gain independence and develop my leadership skills.

Learning outcome 1:

Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I have always volunteered in collaborating work related to arts and creativity. I tend to develop my communication and contribution skills according to the environment and tend to adapt to it in order to provide efficient work. I got the opportunity to showcase my creative thinking by making the best out of the limited resources we had and guiding people through the perfect tasks. While preparing, I realized that I needed to work on time management since we faced problems decorating the venue and using appropriate props for the same. Even with limited time, we managed to execute the event successfully which helped me understand the significance of time management especially when hosting an event.

Learning outcome 4:

Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Commitment and perseverance were a must in order to execute the event successfully and complete all decorations in time. We had less time and resources to achieve our targeted theme and design however, we made it work. I tried my best in giving new ideas for the possible themes we could decorate the venue with and helped people in every area of work whether it was communicating with teachers, decorating the walls and boards, helping people with resources, making rangoli for the Garba, etc. I have an issue with managing time since we had to rush things through and ask didi for help.

Learning Outcome 5:

Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Decoration and management required efforts from everyone on the team and working collaboratively helped us execute the event successfully and up to expectations. We understood each other’s skills and divided roles accordingly which sped up our completion of tasks. We were divided into small groups for different aspects of management like making rangoli, collecting resources, hanging props, guiding the lighting team, making a playlist, and communicating with teachers. Everyone contributed efficiently, eventually leading us to finish all tasks on time.

Final Take Away:

With help of my interests and skills in creativity and arts, I was able to contribute to the decoration committee. I developed my time-management skills and gained exposure in leadership as well being a thinker I was able to contribute a wide range of ideas instantly when we came across a certain problem as we had in the resources factor
