Beach Cleaning

Surat once received the attribution of being the second cleanest city in India, however, its beaches are almost never clean and are instead filled with litter and plastic. My friends and I love beaches, and when we saw the condition of our polluted shore, we decided to clean as much as possible during the span of a month.

Every weekend for a month, we visited Dumas beach to clean up as much as we could. All of us had a tight schedule filled with classes and assignments so we had to plan a few meetings so that we could fix a time accordingly. This is where I demonstrated LO3 by planning and scheduling a whole month’s worth of time for going to the beach. Then we had to convince our parents to take us to the beach early in the morning. Initially, I had to cancel a few of my classes that were scheduled in the morning so that I could go for beach cleaning (LO4). As a group, we were able to clean a major part of the beach (LO5), and because of our actions, I suppose we were also influencing other visitors to not litter around the beach and instead use a trash can for the garbage. This experience could also be portrayed as of global significance because we implemented Sustainable Development Goals number 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 13 (climate change), and 15 (life on land). This experience was very productive for me as I spent my time cleaning beaches and I hope to have inspired others around us to do something charitable for our environment.
