Experience 6 – Photography and Editing | Creativity

Photography has always been an intriguing hobby for me. From one of my past birthdays, my parents had gifted me a new digital camera to work more and spend time on my hobby. I took several courses and learnt different modes of the camera. However, one common lesson learnt from each of the course was that my photography skills were dependent on my imaginations. I had completely forgot about my hobby as a photographer when CAS allowed me to take it in hand again. I digged up my cupboard to find it and decided to learn more and explore my own creativity. My mom is a buisness woman who runs a small company making handicraft items like torans, boquets and gift hampers. I decided to click a few photos for her.

LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Prior to CAS opportunity, I was already trained under several courses to learn photgraphy skills and creativity. This not only meant that I had the ability to click good photos but to also use camera as a tool to display my own creativity. By identifying that I am good at visuvalisation, I realised that I could explore more and build on my strengths and skills. However, it was important for me to learn all modes perfectly to be able to identify at what instance do I use what specific mode. Also, it was really hard for me to set camera settings to take photos in the dark. That small perspective took time and effort to develop and did not come easy. As part of the editing field, I was a clean slate and did not know a single thing about it.

LO 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

The majority of the photos that I had to click fall under product photogrpahy. I asked my mother for product details and all the props she could assist me with to make the photos not dull but aesthetic. After having a list of products and prop details I decided that random backgrounds would not do the job, for which I arranged huge chart papers to cover and provide a soothing change in the background. Being completely unaware about the editing field, I decided to see youtube videos specific to the kind of effect I would like to apply to the photographs. This would not be the right way but helped me get my job done.

LO 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

It would not have been possible to produce such amazing photos wothout the helpof my mother’s team. Her team consisted of just two work from home workers. They assisted in setting the props holding lights and setting product according to my instructions. I developed efficient communication skils while talking with them as very small adjustments in lights and accessories can create of a much greater impact on producing a photo. Communication skill overall helped me boost collaboration with co-workers. Also, being open minded to everyone’s thoughts was necessary. Their ideas were really helpful, as their minds are also really developed to imagine as their entire work depends on their own thinking.
