CAS entry 4: Creativity_ Doing a course on Data Analytics

I am still in a phase where I am deciding what career I want to get into and doing this course on Data Analytics was my way of exploring one of my career choices. So it was a 3 month tenure course offered by ‘Consult Valley’, a Delhi based educational consultancy. Here I gained a lot of in depth information about this field as a whole and even worked on various test cases and created reports which helped me get a feel of how a career in this field would look like.

Learning outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

One of my strengths that I identified here was that I have good research skills because since the time I have been studying in IB, we have been given many research based assignments which required us to go through various types of sources and organise our work. And in this case, these skills came in very handy while working on the test cases and searching for data and information.

The area for growth could be being more proactive and having better time management skills in terms of completing the task throughly and on time.

Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

This was the first time I was doing an internship course where I did not only get the theoretical knowledge but the practical knowledge as well by actually working on test cases. During the course I was required to learn to use data interactive data visualisation softwares like ‘Power BI’ and ‘Tableau’ and initially I found it challenging to use this tools as they were completely new to knew and learning about their features and actually analysing data using those softwares and getting a hang of it, took time. I overcame this challenge by trying out and exploring new features and watching youtube videos.

Learning outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

During the course, we used to set up a meeting at least thrice a week and that too usually on weekdays. So as it is during weekdays we have a very busy schedule from coming home from school to going to gym and then attending classes, hence, managing to attend a meeting in between used to be a bit difficult. Then after a week or so, I actually came up with a timetable and allotted my time to each task in an attempt to stay more organised and fixed my meeting timings

Learning outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

I regularly attended the meeting for 3 months and most of the times used to complete the required task on time because there were days in between when I used to be very tired due to all the school work and assignments (exams were around the corner) , that sometimes it used to take me longer. And even though it was a long internship, I did continue trying to balance my school work with this and working hard.
