Learning German (Creativity)

For the past 1-2 years, I’ve been learning French in my school and Spanish from an app called Duolingo then to further learn a new culture, train and enhance my cognitive skills and ability of my brain, to improve my memory, creative thinking capacity, and verbal & spatial abilities, I decided to learn German. Adding on, also I decided to learn German because many of my go-to universities are situated in Germany.

However, I was not able to learn German due to a never-ending stream of assignments and examinations but CAS has provided me to take this opportunity to learn German. I learned German from an app called Duolingo because learning through the app I can improve my writing, speaking, reading, and listening skills of German in a very sophisticated, organized, and fluid manner. I started learning German on 12 December 2021 and till 12 March 2022, in these 3 months I’ve completed Unit 1 which includes courses named Basics 1, Family, Basics 2, Greetings, Restaurant, Places, Jobs, Hobbies, and Directions. In Unit 2, I’ve completed 2 courses named Questions and Market. Hence in 3 months, I’ve completed 11 courses of German on Duolingo, surpassing +10,000 XPS (points) solely in the German language and missing no days in those 3 months meaning I had a streak of 90 days of German language solely.

Moreover, throughout my 3 months of learning the learner profiles I exhibited are knowledgeable as I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge due to my learning, and also I became more knowledgeable than previously I was. Then, thinker as I did critical thinking throughout the time period I was learning German as in order to complete the courses and exercises, I constantly needed to speak, write, listen, and read German. Adding on, I was a communicator as well especially when I needed to complete my courses and exercises for German by speaking which has improved my communication skills in German and can really help me in the future.

Lastly, the learning outcomes I portrayed were L1, L2, and L4 as I identified my strength which is my enthusiasm, dedication, persistence, and interest in learning a new language from past learnings of French and Spanish while my weakness/developing area was to sharpen my cognitive skills, creative thinking, etc. which I felt I needed to develop and by learning German it helped me tremendously as study showcase that by learning a new language it can bring vital benefits such as a better creative thinking, cognitive functioning, etc. Then I faced challenges initially while learning German such as being unable to remember the words, pronouncing the words correctly, etc. however due to my commitment, persistence, and regular practice I was able to overcome challenges but another major challenge was a lack of time due to my assignments, examinations and my ongoing French and Language studies. I overcame the challenge by making a timetable and balancing my time and reducing my free time. Here I exhibited a learner profile which is balanced as I balanced my time and schedule with this new learning.

Wrapping up, I enhanced and sharpened my cognitive functions, cognitive skills, memory, etc. through a very interesting (on a personal level) way. I also obtained a new set of skills that could definitely help me in the future, especially where the German language/culture is prominent. Below is the evidence (video) ;
