Cycling (Activity)

During the lockdown, I started focusing more on my physical fitness and health. Personally for me, by focusing on my physical fitness and health, I would indirectly improve my mental health and fitness. One way of doing that was cycling for +25 kilometers on weekends from 22 July 2021 to 22 September 2021. Specifically, in my fitness, I wanted to improve my stamina, cardio, muscle strength (especially of my lower body), and increase in cardiovascular fitness to ultimately help me while playing football and maintain a quite decent physique.

Due to CAS, I got an opportunity at a vital timeframe (lockdown) to balance my studies and physical fitness during online classes where P.S, Playtime, etc. weren’t accessible. I did cycling by joining a Cycling Club which was formed by a group of G11 students and all of the members of the club did cycling together on weekends for around 2 months. Hence the learner profiles which I exhibited during the activity are balanced and thinking as due to my critical thinking I formed a timetable for weekends in order to balance my studies and my physical fitness this overall balances my physical and mental health which are both very much vital as a balanced lifestyle was key during the lockdown as many people faced mental or physical health issues. Lastly, I portrayed knowledgeable as I used my knowledge from past subjects; PHE and SEHS that I can mainly do upper body exercises at home easily but that isn’t applicable for lower body exercises that much so during lockdown cycling was one of the best ways to improve particularly my lower body in order to regain and enhance any amount of stamina, cardiovascular fitness, etc. I lost during the initial phase of lockdown.

Moreover, the learning outcomes I demonstrated during my activity are L1, L2, L4, and L6 as I identified my strength that during lockdown I can do upper body exercises but in order to develop and enhance my lower body which was my weakness I rectified, thus I did cycling which could incorporate my lower body as well as cardio/stamina workout which I couldn’t do so much at home due to limitation of space. Then I overcame challenges such as finding the right balance between my studies and physical health on weekends by making a timetable and also using my past knowledge to determine which activity I could do which could enhance my physical health (enhancement in my cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength of lower body, endurance, etc.), and mental health (perfect break from studies, cycling with my friends, and cycling to places like the Dumas beach where we went to cycle for the majority of time to experience nature’s beauty and improve mental health and peace). Also, I was committed and persistent for 2 months in order to not only maintain but enhance my physical health and indirectly/directly mental health as well. Also, I engaged with a global issue that was very significant, especially during lockdown which was people facing a heavy toll on their mental and physical health.

All in all, I felt very positive during the lockdown due to my decision and activity as I improved my physical and mental health and also had a balanced lifestyle which was very much needed during the lockdown. Below are all of the pieces of evidence ;
