Learning French

For my CAS experience, I decided to learn French as a subject and the plus point was that I would be learning a new language. I will be using that knowledge for my ibdp exams. My learning will be supervised by my French teacher.

LO1 : Identify your own strengths and develop areas for growth

After a month of learning French, I realized that reading and listening were my pros while writing and speaking were my cons. So in order to develop areas for growth, I decided to start using an app called Duolingo. I did daily speaking and typing lessons which helped me develop in those areas. Moreover, it also helped my reading and listening skills which were already my strengths.

LO2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

As I mentioned earlier, writing and speaking are my weaknesses so in order to strengthen them. I made a schedule to use Duolingo. I spent 15 minutes on the app before school, after school, and before sleeping. This timetable really helped me as 45 minutes of daily French + school classes were more than enough to work on my weaknesses. After a month of this schedule, I was able to notice a significant improvement in my writing and speaking skills. Moreover, this helped me in my letter writing papers and oral exams.

My takeaways :

Learning a new language was very tough but the easy and slow school learning program helped me and the app I used was a bonus to that. I am learning slowly but surely and I am confident of getting a 6 in grade 12.
