FSMUN 8.0

For my CAS experience, I participated in FSMUN 8.0 as the delegate of Russia. I attended a 2-day conference at fountainhead school where my committee discussed demilitarization in the middle east. The conference really helped me enhance my communication and research skills moreover I won an award too!

LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for growth

My strengths were my communication skills which really helped me and my bloc collect more allies so that our draft resolution on the crisis can gain the majority vote. My research skills helped me win an award as I was able to counter opposing arguments by researching some facts and figures. My weakness was my negotiation skills as because of my short temper I was not able to agree on any settlements with other countries which led to them targetting my country in the general speaker’s list.

LO2: Being the delegate of the Russian federation, my allies were hijacked by the delegate of the USA. In order to cover up for the loss of allies in my bloc, I quickly used my communication skills to convince the delegate of India to be the author of our working paper.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

I like getting to know different people so working collaboratively was actually beneficial to me. I helped newcomers write their speeches and they helped me by giving their votes, together we passed a draft resolution on the agenda. So this was one of the benefits of socializing and working collaboratively.

LO7: One of the choices I made was to remove the delegate of Israel from my bloc because I did not think the delegate will benefit us. Due to this the delegate of Israel developed hate towards my bloc and made a joint statement with other middle eastern countries which hampered the resolution Russia was working on. So I regret making that decision as the delegate would have helped us by bringing their middle eastern allies.

My takeaways: This MUN was a stress buster and a learning outcome for me. I made lots of new friends and learned a great amount of global political terminologies. After the MUN I became more inclined toward global issues of significance and I also started reading newspapers. Moreover, this is just the beginning for more MUNs that I will be attending in the future.
