Volunteer at Book Thief

LO 1Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

This project was developed by my peers and I wanted to help them in areas I thought I knew best, such as assigning genres and preparing for the event the days prior to it. As usual, before any event starts, and especially when there are so many other aspects, the beginning can be slightly chaotic and challenging but we overcame that by being organized and working on our assigned tasks. This helped me understand that my skills lie in organization and leadership in some aspects and honestly, anything that’s related to fiction books, sparks my interest.

LO 3Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

As a volunteer, I mostly helped with last-minute organization and the final prep for the event, whether it was making sure we don’t lose any books and keeping track of what was being wrapped in newspapers to actually sitting for hours wrapping books and helping the other volunteers make sure everything was in place. At last, everything did end up coming together and people were happy with the books that they had grabbed as it was a surprise for them.

LO 5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This event was successful because a lot of people collaborated and made sure that everything was organized and carefully planned. As a volunteer communication with the entire team and the organizing committee was extremely essential and we made sure that personal relationships weren’t a factor that led to any conflicts between the members and volunteers. During the last 2 days, we all sat together to help with the wrapping of all the books and the on day planning for the event the next day. We all worked well with each other and I tried to help as much as I could, at the end of the day the point of this event was to enjoy and have a good day filled with people enjoying something that we thoroughly loved!
