Organizing French Immersion Event | Service and Creativity | Group Project.

French Immersion Event was an event organized by my classmates and me. Through this event we tried to showcase our understanding on the French culture till now. So, we decided to have different stalls offering Activities which help visitors know about the know and also few stall with French cuisine. Initially, this event was supposed to be teacher led but then my classmates and I decided to help the teachers by organizing the event ourselves.

LOs = 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

LO 1 = Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I had never organized any event by myself and hence initially it was a bit challenging for me to understand how to start off and manage things. But I can work better collaboratively and so, I overcame this challenge by working collaboratively with my friends.

LO 2 = Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
As I mentioned before initially it was challenging to understand how to start off but then we figured it out gradually. Another major challenge we faced was, initially the was supposed to take place on 30th September. But on 28th September the school shut down due to Covid, so this was a major drawback as we had to put everything on hold for the next 3 months and then find new dates as per convenience and replan the whole event. Again working collaboratively was a big advantage to overcome this challenge, as we had frequent meeting outside school hours and also worked for the event during the free slots in school.

LO 3 = Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
We had a spreadsheet wherein we were keeping track of all the things and also had a hangout group to discuss things. We also had frequent online meetings to discuss the progress and the work to be done. Though I feel that sometimes there was a lack of time management from our side because of which on the end time we had to keep early ins and also miss our slots. Personally, this was the first time that I had ever initiated or planned something, so I learned a lot from this event which will surely help in future while planning any other event or maintaining leadership.

LO 4 = Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
We, as a group, were committed to execute this event successfully in a way that hasn’t been seen in the past years. There were a lot of times wherein we got involved in our personal studies because of which we were not able to give time for planning the event which even led to procrastination. So, sometimes it was hard to stay committed due to studies and other personal things. Also, when our event got postponed at the last minute, we had sure that we are still committed towards this event and will execute again with equal amount of enthusiasm.

LO 5 = Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
This being a group project helped me to be actively participative as I can work well in groups and especially with my friends. So, communication became very easy as we were easily able to share our ideas with each other. Though, the difficult part here was that when you are working in a group you need to take care of everyone’s schedules. So, this problem came when we had to keep meetings but not everyone’s schedules were matching. Eventually, we took out sometime to have meetings while the other time we just discussed on the hangout. For this event team work was really important as a lot of things had to be done from the planning of the flow of the event, decorations, keeping track of other stalls, etc and hence it was easier being a team as we were able to distribute our work.

To sum up, It was a wonderful experience organizing this event and I also learnt new skills and attributes in the process such as being principled and communicator. I can also connect this experience with my French subject as the purpose of the event was the showcase to French language and the culture as a whole. I feel very accomplished after organizing this event successfully as we even got great reviews from others.
