Badminton

Being diagnosed with a medical condition that restricts movement, and going through the covid times, I lost touch with sports almost completely. Henceforth, when the doctor gave me the go-ahead to play badminton I was more than excited and took it up in badminton in a grade 11 PS subject (LO 3).

I had never professionally learned or played badminton for more than leisure, the lack of physical activity had also made me lazy and unwilling to put in the effort, due to this it was hard yet interesting to learn (LO 1). There were times when giving up seemed attractive, as the progress was there but slow, however with the help of my fellow players and coaches I developed significantly in my skills of the game (LO 5). Over time I learned how to perfect my stance, serve, receive, front-hand, back-hand, the rules of the game and so much more.

Any fast-paced sport requires the player to master speed, agility, strength, accuracy, control, and fast reflexes, these proved to be a big hurdle in my journey. In order to help hone my skills faster in shorter spans of time, I decided to buy my own equipment and practice whenever I had the time to, this was a major asset to learning the sport. Another major difficulty I faced was due to Covid – 19, during the span of these 6 months there were multiple times when the school closed due to safety regulations, this forced me to stay home and prevented me from practicing. However, after 6 months, although there is still much to learn in order to come closer to a proficient level, I think I have come a far way.
