Devarsh Shah – CAS Experience – Distributing Food into the needy

Poverty has become one of the biggest issues worldwide and the money gap is widening even more. This has led to some major issues in the societies and as this increases the racism in the society also does. Due to the rise, the world hunger issue is also increasing. If everyone donates the leftovers or cooks some extra food to donate the issue can be counteracted and eradicated.

LO -3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. I had to plan the areas and the type of meal which I was supposed to donate. For example I donated proper means and not packets so I had to decide which could I give so that it’s common enough that everyone could have it and nutritious enough so that it would give them proper tuition and also a good amount of quantity to fill up their bellies.

LO -4 : show commitment to perseverance in CAS experiences. I showed optimum level of commitment as I had to dedicate some time to package the food into disposable foil containers as well as decide the menu and decide the areas that I would go to inorder to give out food.

LO -5 : Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. I worked with a few friends of mine in order to divide the workload and tasks to manage this project. One of my friends decided and figured out the areas we were supposed to distribute food in, one friend took the responsibility to design the food menu for optimum level of nutrition. And I took the responsibility to make the food and package it.

LO -6 : Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. As mentioned in the first paragraph Poverty is a major world issue which leads to world hunger and widens the money gap between the classes which leads to major increase in racism and low living standards in low economically developed nations.

LO -7 :recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions. We decided which communities we had to focus on and we chose the people who live nearby the roads rather than slums. This was because a lot of NGOs donate to the slums but rarely donate to the roadside. This is because it’s a harder problem to cater to.

It was a great experience donating and giving to the people in need. It gives us sympathy and a feeling of good work. I would want to do these kinds of acts every now and then because it helps contribute to a major world problem.
