Voice Record a Story (Service)

Description of the experience:

Team Everest is a group of passionate philanthropists and volunteers who work together to make a difference. I became a part of this community by volunteering for one of their events which facilitated reading short stories and books for blind children who are unable to have access to these books because of certain limitations. My public speaking skills of voice modulation, intonation, and pitch really helped me deliver the story in its truest essence. It was an interesting experience but involved a lot of patience and re-recording whenever I was interrupted in the middle of my reading. Overall, it was an amazing experience.

Learning outcome 3:

Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

When you are given a job as rewarding as helping someone who is unable to have access to something as trivial as stories, you want all your actions to count. Likewise, I made it a point to ensure the choice of story was perfect and apt for the age group that was given. So I chose something they would enjoy and would give them a valuable lesson. A story titled, “The circle of good deeds”. I am inclined towards planning and organizing my studies, classes to ensure that everything is in alignment. Planning for this was not cumbersome, it was in fact very interesting so it was not difficult. I did not know that my voice in a sort of podcast or audio recording would turn out to be so soothing. Planning is quintessential because it lays the foundation and skeleton upon which you structure your journey that makes reaching goals and achieving visions a piece of cake. Planning will also help me in the future as it saves time and effort.

Learning outcome 6:

Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The issue I was focussing on was the promotion of resources for blind children, especially children’s books and fables. Not all Books are converted to braille and provided to these children which limits the extent of access to resources these children have. The issue at hand is very important and has to be dealt with because it limits children with astounding abilities by not giving them an opportunity to flourish. Understanding global issues helps contribute to personal growth because it deals with self-satisfaction, kindness, open-mindedness, and empathy which are key to one’s character as a global citizen. This is a very underrated issue and being able to be a part of its solution makes me puffed with pride and further inclined to be of much use.

Final Take Away:

Through this Service, I realized that there are a lot more social problems that are often undermined. The learner profiles that I developed in this act were caring and communication. The SDG goal that I focused on are Quality Education and Reducing Inequality.
