Farewell- Volunteer in the Decoration team( Creativity)

Description of the experience:

I was given the opportunity to contribute and make Farewell for grade 12 a memorable day. My role was to help with the decoration and setup of the event. I also exhibited my management skills on the day and helped with the backstage tasks. I got the chance to develop a lot of skills and experience working with a bunch of creative people.

Learning outcome 1:

Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I have always been keen to do any work that involves art and requires my creativity skills. I adapt to different work environments easily so that acted as my strength. Additionally, I also got the opportunity to manage the backstage on-day. During the preparation period, I realized that I have to balance my workload and tasks. Hence, to work on my self-management skills, I never missed any early inns so that I don’t have to compromise on my education and could give my best in both. It is important to know my strengths and weaknesses so that I can use them when needed.

Learning outcome 4:

Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Commitment and Perseverance were required as we had to meet a deadline and have the entire venue ready. and I had to work a lot on my time management skills as there were a lot of assessments during the preparation dates. Dedicating time and effort to both tasks was a very essential aspect. I have experienced issues with managing my time before also hence I used this chance to improve my approach towards it. As this was supposed to be done as a team we all had to come to mutual conclusions and create a win-win situation for all.

Learning Outcome 5:

Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This task required all of us to work collaboratively as everybody is unique with different opinions. We did have a few quarrels but eventually, we understood each other and came to a conclusion. We were divided into smaller groups dividing the workload. This made things easier as all of us had time constraints. Whenever we had a clash of ideas we understood its execution process and then classified which could be done within the time limit will the available resources.

Learning outcome 6:

Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

We aimed to reuse resources to contribute to a waste-free environment. We reused CDs that were of no use and made a photo booth out of them. We also covered another corner with playing cards that were not of any usage because of a few cards being misplaced in the deck.  We cut pieces of a cloth that wasn’t in its best condition and hung it in one of the areas where it would look aesthetically pleasing.  Our primary aim was to limit any waste and use existing material from school.

Final Take Away:

Through this opportunity of using my creativity and volunteering in the Farewell, I developed the learner profile of being a thinker and being balanced as I used my thoughts and ideas to enhance the decor aspect and ease our workload. The SDG that I implemented was Responsible consumption and production while using the resources required.
