This experience was organised by Unitree. The organisation helps children affected by down syndrome in different was from helping them socialize to giving them a new experience. They gathered volunteers on the festival of Garba to teach different variations of Garba a traditional festival that’s celebrated throughout Gujarat. This will be a whole new experience for them, as most of them haven’t attended or participated in the famous festival of Garba that is celebrated in Gujarat every year. We helped them by teaching them the traditional dance and then on the final 3 days dancing with them
LO 1- ( Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth )
Communication skills are one my strength, Children at unitree, needs a friends whom they can have fun, open up and share their thought. I was responsible for making them comfortable in the event. I got to know about their experience and learned a lot in the event.
LO 6 – ( Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance )
Down syndrome is definitely a big issue in today’s world. It is a genetic disorder that no one has control of nor a solution to the problem. People with these disease are often left out, these need friends and people whom they can socialize. Attending these events help me to contribute in the cause and engage with a global significance.
L7 – ( Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions )
I learned from the event that everyone needs to be treated equally and rightly. Children at Unitree are really alone. I need to consider my choices and action. My goal was to interact with these children and present myself as a friend to them. Rather, playing garba and dancing.
I really enjoyed participating in this event, felt proud of myself that I am investing my time for a good cause.
