Crumple

Crumple was such an activity where we had to create paper using recycled waste. We decided on a date to come early to school. We used a material that was a mix of liquid and solid. Using a sieve this material was drained. This sieve was in the shape of a square. Later, we had to remove the material, and then we had to leave it to dry. During this, I exhibited LO2, Lo4, LO5, LO6 and LO7.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. This was exhibited in this activity as I did not know how to recycle paper and create new paper from the slurry of old papers. I acquired a new skill which was to recycle used paper.

LO4: Show Commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. This is exhibited because we have a scheduling problem because we didn’t have sufficient time during the school hours to work on the project we decided to come early and complete the project.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. This is exhibited as we only had an hour to create paper before school started for the day. We roughly created about 110 papers and if it were not done in a group, the sheets of paper created would be really low. This is a benefit of working collaboratively and this is how this LO was demonstrated during this activity.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. This is exhibited because creating papers is one of main reasons for which a lot of trees are cut so by recycling paper and teaching people how to create new paper from old paper we can fight global warming as this can result in more recycling of paper than before.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions. This is exhibited as the paper is created from trees which provide us oxygen. The cutting of trees for expansion is already leading to the reduction of oxygen. Creating more and more papers from cutting trees can lead to serious degradation of oxygen in the environment and that is why we decided to recycle papers and distribute them. Also just to prove that this method works we did not just use new pages instead we went on a donation drive where we asked for papers and when these papers were collected this was used for the production of new pages.
