People are losing sight of one key issue in this age of rapidly growing technologies: climate change. Long-term changes in temperature and weather patterns are referred to as climate change. These movements may be natural, but human activity has been the primary cause of climate change since the 1800s, mostly owing to the combustion of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and gas), which produce heat-trapping gases.
In this experience I first made an action plan, containing information about what, when, where and how I plan to spread awareness about climate change. I then decided that social media is the best way to communicate as it is used worldwide and is an easy way to communicate with a larger audience. Then I created an Instagram account for the same, named: Future Earth. Now, the main difficulty was how do I get the reach that I need. The solution for this was, I shared the Instagram page with my friends and family. Later, I created a poster which conveyed information about what is climate change and why is it happening. I uploaded one post every week about how can we reduce climate change? What steps can be taken to prevent future damage? This experience also helped me cater 3 sustainable development goals, SDG 13 – Climate action, SDG 14 – Life below water, SDG 15 – Life on land.
The LOs that were catered to in this experience were, LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate a CAS plan, LO 4: Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences, LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate a CAS plan
To prepare for this event, I devised a detailed plan of action that included specifics such as the date, location, techniques, and substance of my attempts to raise awareness about climate change. Additionally, my strategy included performing extensive research to ensure that I had correct and credible material to provide, as well as the actions I needed to follow to successfully convey this information on a poster. In essence, my strategy was a holistic approach to my aim of raising awareness about climate change, and it entailed careful evaluation of all the necessary parts.
LO 4: Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences
While navigating through this experience, I encountered a few obstacles such as struggling to expand my audience, finding the right balance between my academic and athletic commitments, and so on. However, I had a well-structured plan in place that helped me stay on track. I scheduled my activities carefully and allotted specific time periods for working on this experience, which allowed me to make steady progress towards my goals despite the challenges I faced. In essence, I was able to manage my time effectively and remained committed to my objectives, despite the obstacles that arose along the way.
LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Climate change is a critical issue that has global implications, as it is responsible for causing the death of animals, birds, trees, and even humans. One of the primary causes of climate change is the pollution generated by gasoline-powered automobiles, which releases harmful carbon emissions into the atmosphere. This pollution not only affects the environment but also poses significant health risks to individuals, as it can cause respiratory problems and other serious ailments. Hence, by engaging in this experience, I was able to address an issue of tremendous importance that affects people and ecosystems all over the world.
