Dancing in the 2022 Farewell.

I had been waiting for the farewell of the 2022 batch for a long time, I had always wanted to be a part of it, and one of the best ways through which I could make sure that the batch of 2022 gets the farewell they deserve was to take part in the performances prepared for the same.

LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Dancing has never been something at which I have been good at, however, it has always been something which I have enjoyed with all my heart, regardless of my lack of skills in it. Hence, being part of 5 of the performances and choreographing the dances from scratch was a tough challenge for me. Through the whole process, there had been many clashes in opinions in the people involved in the performances, some regarding the choreography and some regarding the timings. These clashes had created a bad environment in the practices which made it difficult in the middle, however, after a short meeting, everyone worked through it and decided to focus on the main goal at hand. One of the challenges was that some of the steps of the choreography were harder than others, and were harder for some people, especially for me, since I had never been great at dancing, if you look at the first practice video which was taken, I can be seen struggling to remember the steps and to get some of the steps right, however as I kept practicing, and as we progressed with more sessions, I was able to get the hang of the choreo and get all the steps right.

LO 4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

This was one of the CAS where commitment was very important. When it comes to dance, you have to practice it daily if you want to remember it and not get it wrong on the day of the performance. For the farewell, we had early ins almost every single day till the day of the farewell, we had to get up at 6 and come to school and dance, I feel like that shows the commitment that everyone made and followed through with. Also, coming and attending the practice sessions were also hard, as there were several people involved and not all timings matched for every one and hence either some people were expected to learn the dance afterwards and a lot of changes had to be made halfway through the performances. However, most of the people involved always made it to the practice sessions and showed perseverance in their dances and their attitude towards the performances. And to learn 5 dances and perform them back to back, I showed a lot of commitment by not backing out, although sometimes farewell practices with all my study load with school overwhelmed me, but I made sure to practice all the dances and make sure I do not get them wrong.

LO 5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

When it is a group dance, and performances that are supposed to be performed with pairs, collaboration is really important and throughout the whole process of learning the dances, I feel like everyone got a lot closer to each other and started trusting each other’s partners a lot more than before. And as we proceeded with more practices, the teamwork with the flow of the performances got a lot better and hence the final performance was in sync and was visually pleasing to watch, because if we had not worked together and were not in sync then the performance would have been a failure and would not have been fun to watch. And hence, with great collaboration skills, with dances such as ‘Badtameez Dill, ‘Jawaani Song’, ‘Senorita’, where we were supposed to dance specifically with partners and otherwise with a whole group, our performances were fun to watch and were a success.

Overall, the whole experience was a very memorable experience. One where I got to learn the benefits of working together and at the same time, the cons of it. One where I got to enjoy myself and learned art of commitment and balancing.
