I have found that using a waveboard is a great method for locomotion over short distances and a good tool for exercising lower body muscles particularly the calf and thighs. I have categorized this endeavor under the activity component of CAS since riding a waveboard leads to a healthier lifestyle.
My main goal of riding the wave board was to remain on the waveboard for a minimum of 5 minutes while riding the waveboard. My side goals were to achieve turns resembling the figure eight in a short area and learning how to apply brakes on the waveboard without tumbling to the ground.
I demonstrated learning outcome 2 by overcoming various difficulties while riding the wave board: stepping on the waveboard, controlling the speed and tilt of the waveboard, turning the waveboard along sharp turns, learning how to apply brakes on the waveboard etc. As the popular idiom states practice makes perfect, I was able to overcome these challenges by practicing for 3 days allotting 1 hour of practice each day.
By performing this activity I catered to learning outcome 4. I had to demonstrate a lot of perseverance and resilience in the beginning since I would constantly fall of the waveboard. In the beginning of my journey I faced a lot of difficulty in climbing on top of the waveboard itself. I also faced difficulty in maintaining my stability and momentum on the waveboard since balancing them is crucial to riding a waveboard effectively.
I had demonstrated learning outcome 7 by choosing to ride the wave board for short distances only for example: to the local sport store, grocery shop etc. However, considering the current lockdown scenario I was unable to ride my wave board after 10:00 pm. Moreover, I was concerned about my health and safety since I may get injured by falling onto the tar roads and injuring myself badly. Therefore, I indirectly took ethics into consideration before riding the wave board on the streets.
The learner profile I built through this experience is courageous since I learnt how to ride a waveboard despite the possible injuries I could have faced if I fell from the waveboard. Moreover, I also demonstrated the learner profile caring since I sometimes rode the wave board for short distances as an alternative to a car or motorbike since the wave board is an eco-friendly mode of transportation and helps me increase the muscular strength of my lower body.
Overall, I would call this activity a success since I learned how to ride a waveboard successfully without falling for 5 minutes. Moreover, now I am confident in my abilities to ride the wave board on rough as well as smooth ground and will use those abilities to travel short distances whenever feasible.
