Anand Utsav

Anand Utsav was our CAS project, this was an event that we organised for the staff members (admin and support staff), it was like a flea with different games and activities. The purpose of organising this event was to give the staff members a free and fun day as a ‘thank you’ for working hard for us and helping us throughout our school life.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

There were a lot of challenges that we faced as a team to be able to make this event a successful one. We had to maintain the budget, arranging volunteers, dividing workload, use very little help of the admin and support staff for a large scale event with 200-300 people, collaboration and unity within the team, thinking of activities and games from different points of views so that each group enjoys as much as possible as per their comfort zone. While overcoming these challenges, each in their own different way, we developed a lot of skills like self management for completing our own duties and to manage stress while organising this whole large scale event by ourselves, collaboration and cooperation skills for team work and division of workload, communication skills to be able to communicate out ideas within the team and to the authority that was helping us organise this event, research skills to get most of the activities and games and critical thinking things to analyse every action so that errors are reduces as much as possible and we are able to achieve our goal effectively. Lastly, one of the most important skills were organisation skills to manage and organise this whole event and successfully deliver the purpose that was to be achieved.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

For this experience, organising was of utmost importance for the aimed outcome, not only for the event to happen but also to maintain consistent communication between the team members and the authority that we were supposed to report to, organising the content and information required helped us get resources and take actions on time. As well as that, planning the event took a lot of efforts with the busy schedules of teachers that were helping us with this event, our own academic submissions and to be able to gather all six members of the core committee to keep everyone in loop while making decisions. We had a google chat of the core committee and the teachers, and a common sheet that had all of the information regarding the event. This experience has been a very helpful one as planning events and management of people will become easier as this was an event that required management of a huge number of people. Skills like self management, organisation, communication skills, social skills and a lot more were enhanced and developed.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This acted as a very important part of the whole process, to be able to work collaboratively not only with the team members but also with teachers, volunteers and everyone else that was somewhat part of this to help us out in the smallest way possible. Maintaining communication, effective delivery of work to be done, our requirements for the event, actions to be taken and ideas that were out forward, everything required cooperation and social working skills. Also, it was very important to maintain unity between the team members (core committee), since miscommunication and misunderstandings between us would’ve caused problems in every next stage. This project help us develop collaborative skills very prominently, we learnt management, decision making and a lot of different skills, especially when all group members were stressed but we had to work with each other regardless of that to be able to make this event successful.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Catering to the choices made was important as ethical use of the resources and the opportunities that we were provided with was necessary. As this event was organised in school, adhering to the school policies and maintaining integrity while doing that required moral choices and thoughtful actions to be taken.
