Dance (activity)

Dancing is an art. Even if you don’t know how to dance, it can evoke so many emotions like paintings. I used to dance as a kid, however, I got caught up in my studies and lost touch with it. However, in grade-11, wherein we needed to fulfil 9 CAS experiences, I reconnected with dance and joined classes to demonstrate commitment and perseverance.

LO-1
Dance is very subjective and one can’t classify it as a weakness or a strength, but simply a feeling. In the same way, I often felt good about the way I danced or pathetic about the way my moves turned out to be. In the start, I used to look at myself and point out how fat I used to look while dancing, which almost made me give up. However, after identifying the weakness that was me, I made a goal to commit to dance 4 days a week for an hour. In this way, I got sufficient breaks which allowed me to concentrate on my studies.

LO-2
As I hadn’t performed any of the dance forms in many years, it was difficult to relearn and reach the level of other participants in the classes. I had to practice at home as well to reach my potential and extract the most from classes. Moreover, I discovered that I didn’t need to have a perfect body to dance or look appealing while I danced. It should make me happy and content with myself. This helped me boost my self-confidence which could be observed in my dances as well.

LO-4
My original plan was to go forward with this activity for a month, however, I enjoyed the process and the routine that I committed to the same and have been attending classes ever since. I started it back in September and have been continuing for 3-4 months, which shows that discovering new skills or rather honing up existing ones, helped me to commit to an experience and not give up even when dances/forms get challenging.
