Learning Boxing

Learning outcome 1 (Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth):

Throughout my entire boxing experience, I have identified my strengths and weaknesses. Knowing that, has helped me improve and turn my weaknesses into my strengths. Having my weaknesses and strengths figured out gave me a better understanding of what I can use as an advantage, and what I lack on. With my weaknesses, I can create a goal and try to achieve that from the beginning, instead of doing unnecessary things, for example, focusing on my legs than my core, playing football from an early age has helped me develop my leg movement, therefore its unnecessary. Boxing required heavy chest rotations, which was one of my weaknesses. I chose this activity because I’ve always been interested in this sport, and I used this opportunity to learn it.

Learning outcome 2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process):

The challenges I faced while doing this experience was, Dedication, having to be in a new environment and having the motivation to go to the gym everyday no matter how tired/exhausted I was, and continue working out. Another challenge I faced was keeping up with my stamina, boxing itself is very exhausting. Slowly, I got use to straining my muscles and it was easier to find motivation for the workouts.

Learning outcome 3 (Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience):

This long-term experience required a decent amount of planning and execution. From finding the equipment, fighting ring, gloves, boxing wrap, and more and then working out for more than a month, this required motivations, dedication, and knowledge. The information was planned and due to that I could achieve my goals of building muscle and technique in the sport.

Learning outcome 4 (Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences):

I worked out almost every day for more than a month, this required a lot of motivation and commitment. Often due to exhausting workouts a day prior, I would skip a few sessions, however, after a few days of getting use to straining my muscles, I tried to make up for all the lost days.
working on this sport helped me mentally and physically, I can now defend my self in any situation with the techniques I’ve learnt. I have learnt many skills which I would not have known without participating in this exercise.

Learning outcome 6 (Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance):

Through my boxing experience, I have come to appreciate the importance of physical fitness and well-being, which is a global issue of significance. Regular exercise can improve not only an individual’s physical health but also their mental health, self-confidence, and overall quality of life. Additionally, the sport of boxing has a long history and cultural significance in many parts of the world, and I have gained a deeper appreciation for this through my own engagement with the sport. Furthermore, boxing can be a means of promoting social cohesion and inclusion, as it brings people together from diverse backgrounds and can provide a sense of community and belonging. As such, my engagement with boxing has allowed me to reflect on issues of global significance and the role that physical activity can play in addressing these challenges.
