Theory of knowledge (TOK) is a mandatory component in the IB diploma. It helps the students to reflect critically on diverse ways of knowing and on areas of knowledge. It helps us to identify deeper knowledge and makes us acquainted with the complexity of knowledge.
While being on the organizing committee, I had to come up with various solutions to problems and I had to meet deadlines with my work. Throughout the process, I had to continuously work on teachers’ feedback and had to listen to their disapproval. I had to work on them and make them better. I was able to put forward my points and I was able to contribute and help my members and I was successfully able to lead all the members and work collaboratively. We were able to complete the event successfully and I was able to contribute my various strengths to this event.
One of the most difficult challenges for me was the creative skills required for the event. It was a personal challenge as I had to draw, paint and make everything with my hands and I wasn’t very good at it. I was able to get help from my friend and tried to overcome it. I was able to paint and draw and got feedback on changes that needed to be made. I couldn’t completely learn to paint or draw well but I was glad I took this challenge. We had to plan the event from the start and execute the entire event. Throughout the timeline, different changes helped me launch new ideas and share creative ideas among my team members. We had to make last-minute changes and design the whole change and execute it again.
I was working with a bunch of other thirteen students from my grade. Being in the organizing committee, I had to lead them and had to take the final decision but I also had to listen to others’ ideas and work together as a whole team. It is not difficult for me to work with others and I can manage to work collaboratively. As one of the leaders, I had to give everyone a chance to express their ideas and opinions on the plan and I had to put in efforts to bring everyone together and work as a team.
We made sure that while designing the event, planning the decoration, we kept the decoration sustainable and re-used the already made decorations. This helped us save a lot of resources and have minimal waste. The event’s expectations were met even while being responsible and being a critic on using paper. The decorations were restored and kept safe which can be reused by the next batch for the TOK exhibition. Planning a sustainable event while making it interactive and fun for all was a huge task for us, however, we tried our best at all times to save resources. Once used, we returned all the resources and took full responsibility for any damage done in the case. We used all types of objects to ensure it was inclusive for teachers as well as students to have a clear and fun experience.
The event was a great way to make the TOK exhibition unique and different. It helped me develop new skills and learn new ideas and creative management that I will be using in the future.
