Gourmet Kitchen

One of my many passions, cooking, was developed as a product of my mom’s hobbies. She taught me how to cook at a young age, and this directly translated into my love of cooking for others. I was able to utilise this in the Gourmet Kitchen in FS Got Talent, and in doing so I was able to employ and develop my skills in both the field of cooking and organisation through self management. Apart from cooking, I also managed the costs of sales at the stall, which helped me to understand how to maintain finances, catering to my interest in business management.

Through this, I catered to the following LOs:

LO 1

Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

During the experience, I was able to identify the areas in which I am good and those in which I need to improve. One of my strengths is that I easily learn new things. For this experience, I tried some new dishes, which were pesto and cheese cake. These dishes were completely new to me, so learning how to make them was difficult, but I learned how to make them with the help of my mother. On the other hand, one of my weaknesses is that when I was managing the costs of sale at the stall, I had difficulty keeping track of the costs of four different items because I was very confused since I had never done so before. It is essential to comprehend your strengths and weaknesses so that you can determine where you stand. It feels great to have identified my strengths and weaknesses and l will try to work upon and overcome my weaknesses.

LO 3 –

Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

As I previously stated, the dishes that I prepared were completely unfamiliar to me, so I had to first learn how to prepare them, and then I had to ensure that the finances that I would be handling at the stall did not have any flaws, in order to calculate how efficient we were in selling food items.Usually I am not that organised person but when it comes to committing something I try to give my best.During this experience, I had to work very hard on planning, and I knew that it will help me sooner or later, and I will be very grateful. It is very beneficial to you if you plan an experience before you begin it because you will learn how and what to do. However, this will all be for naught if you do not initiate your activity properly, so it is also important to be confident enough while performing the activity.

LO 6 –

Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The global issue addressed by this experience is that boys cannot cook well. It may seem silly, but in this generation, people emphasise the fact that girls are better cooks than boys; I have personal experience with relatives who do not believe I can cook. Taking on this global issue I was able to learn two new dishes (pesto and cheese cake). It felt great because I enjoy following my passions, one of which is cooking, and I always feel good when I try something new.

LO 7 –

Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and action

The ethical issue in this activity was the waste of food and resources used in the preparation of the dishes. I paid special attention to not wasting resources and did my best to use every ingredient to the fullest. Food waste falls under ethical choice because it is up to us to use our resources efficiently and reduce waste..Despite of that there was no food waste because all food items were consumed by the end of the event. The plates and spoons used to serve food were made of wood, which made them biodegradable.
