After hearing the disheartening news regarding the increase in wastage at our very own dumas beach me and my friends thought of taking CAS as an opportunity to help clean the beach. We created a WhatsApp group and communicated the whole plan. Starting from transportation to collecting needed resources like garbage bags and gloves, to generating a timetable. We conducted this experience every weekend for a month. The whole schedule before executing the plan was put into action beforehand to avoid delay in the experience. We assigned individual tasks amongst us as per the feasibility such as the collection of resources, arrangement of transportation and food and water. Planning the sessions was exciting and helped me gain experience in the initiation and management of events. Organizing and planning were easy for me as personally, I like to be organized in my personal life.

Since we worked as a team, working together made things easier. It made the process of planning smooth and the execution of the plan uncomplicated. As mentioned earlier, dividing the work of pre-planning reduced the workload and was done in no time. While handpicking the garbage and waste, we divided the area amongst us as it will cover more ground in less time, so that way we can collect as much as possible. This initiative was a vital decision with a beneficial outcome. Woking collaboratively definitely makes a difference in the flow of work, it not only helps in quick action but with high efficiency.

In this experience the issue catered was environmental issues, the environment is at stake because of human’s unwise actions. Life underwater is harmed because of the waste spilled on beaches and water. Domestic animals consume waste, especially plastic, harming their health. The cluster waste stored on beaches produces toxic gasses polluting the environment. Working as a team and cleaning the beach made a little change to the environment. This little change can be converted to a bigger change if each and every person realizes their misdeed and takes an initiative to make a difference. I personally feel very guilty knowing such issues aren’t taken seriously by the people however this experience might have motivated the bystanders or at least made us realize the consequences.

It is principled to consider the ethics of choices and actions which is why in this experience we as a group made sure to do the right thing and help the environment as well as the garbage pickers and workers. This not only made us happy but proud as well.
