Swappers Stop – CAS experience

Swappers stop was an opportunity I took to showcase my skills learned in business and management. I learned how to collaborate, communicate and manage my time in an organized manner. This event also helped me overcome sustainable development goals, including responsible consumption and resource production. It was an innovative experience because of the skills we developed throughout the project. The primary purpose of this event was to promote sustainability through sustainable consumption and production of the items we brought. This event worked because students and teachers got various things like clothes, accessories, and books that they did not need anymore; depending on the quality of that item, they each had points based on the number of things they submitted and the quality. These points can be further swapped with other items on the event day.; hence the name “swappers stop.” This event was a way to promote sustainability, as we become more responsible for the waste we produce and consume. We help each other with the resources we may or may not need. By the end of the event, the remaining items were further donated to charities and the people who needed them.

This CAS experience was creativity, activity, and service; all three are part of this experience. The invention was implemented while creating ideas for decoration and invitation cards for the event. We, as a team, also decided that we would not use plastic to promote sustainability. The activity was used when I implemented these ideas, and we moved forward with them by making decorations, getting the resources, and handling everything in a time-based manner. Lastly, service was implemented as I dealt with social media marketing to influence more people to participate in this event. Not only that but capturing every memory and behind-the-scenes during the preparation. The audience was not only influenced to come but also inspired to do something similar to promote sustainability in the future. Social media marketing was not only used to influence people to come to the event but also how this event is associated with sustainability and its impact on a global level.

LO1 – Identify my own strengths and develop areas for growth – Understand and identify my strengths in designing graphics and media teams to develop my skills in those areas. Learning to film with different angles, coming up with unique ideas for shoots, and influencing people to be a part of this event.

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences – being a part of this event meant showcasing commitment skills and doing all the things on time so that the event is successful. The organizing team worked in various sectors, including decoration, media, food, and the message we wanted to share was influenced very clearly on the Instagram handles that the media team was taking.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively – there was a whole media team that I worked with to handle Instagram and capture every single memory that we made while organizing it. Working collaboratively meant sharing ideas and discussing various strategies to make the event successful.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance – the whole point of this event was to promote sustainable consumption and production of resources, and that was done through the swapping and exchange of goods that people brought, from clothes, jewelry, and accessories.
