CAS- Planting (Activity)

In this experience I planted a variety of plants in my balcony and took care of them (watering them daily, loosening the soil etc.) which helps decrease the carbon footprint in a tiny manner and provides more oxygen in the air.

LO-2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process) – Recalling back I remember not knowing anything about planting or gardening , so I had absolutely no idea what plants am I going to grow and how will I grow them , I just knew we need seed , soil and water , on further research I understood certain techniques like loosening the soil , grafting etc thereby learning knew skill and acquiring new knowledge.

LO-3 (Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience)- First I researched about the possible types of plants I could get which get along with the weather conditions , because as I am new to this it would be hard to manage a lot. so I bought those seeds and bought some soil , started planting and watering them , another thing I did was that whatever leftover fruit skins or seeds I had I used to put them in the soil as a sort of my own organic fertilizer at it would decompose fast and provide nutrition to the soil . That is how I initiated the experience the plan I did was add reminders to water the plants or call the gardener once in 2 months or so , to check upon the progress my plants made.

LO-4 (Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences) – As this experience was heavily based upon nurturing the plants , there was a lot of commitment and perseverance required , like committing to the process of looking after them daily , and doing it again and again everyday made me persevere.

LO-6 (Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance) – The global Issues I catered to here were global warming and increase in carbon emission , to counter them I am planting plants which take in carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen , which in turn reduces global warming and carbon emission.

My final Takeaway on this experience is that we all need to do something for this issue globally , and everybody should at least plant 2 plants in their homes , it will contribute in a small but meaningful manner.
