Service
I took part in community service organized by my school. I was always fond of participating in social activities and CAS gave me the opportunity to do it. There were 6 community service sessions that happened on weekends and we had to spend 3 hours each day. We had the option of selecting the community service which we would like to provide such as dance, science experiments, operating laptops, sports, cooking, art and craft. I am passionate about arts and so I taught them art and craft. We had to teach the government school kids who didnĀ“t have much exposure to the extra circular activity.
The SDG goal of quality education is connected with my CAS experience, as we tried to give inclusive quality education in the form of art and craft and gave learning opportunities to government school children.
LO 3 = Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Before conducting community service sessions we had to plan what kind of art and craft we would like to teach them. In every session we had to teach them something new, so we had to plan priorly. We also had to practice what we had to teach so that we give them quality learning. So we have taught them to make lanterns, rakhi, finger puppets,s and much more. We made a schedule that included what we are going to teach them and how do we prepare for it.
LO 4 = Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
I was committed and attended all the community service sessions, even though I had holidays, exams, and also extra classes but still I showed up for the sessions. It was a little difficult to manage all the kids together and teach them. The kids had different paces of learning so I had to match with all of them. All of the kids asked me at the same time which made it more difficult for me.
In my CAS experience, I demonstrated the learner profile communicator as I had to communicate and teach them the craft. I had to communicate with them in their language of Gujarati and then teach on a slow pace.
