Activity – Swimming

Swimming has always been in my interest as an activity for both, leisure and fitness. I always wanted to do an activity like swimming during summer vacations, thus, it was a perfect opportunity for me to utilize the holiday for my body’s fitness and mind’s pleasure. Hence, I joined swimming classes with the added benefit of getting rid of the summer heat and boredom for the vacation period. Swimming classes seemed tiring in the beginning but as I continued with it, I witnessed changes like weight loss and more strength than before, in my body.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth

As a part of my strength, I realized that I could manage to perform the body movements well while swimming, especially, floating and kicking were within my capability. In the initial days of the classes, I easily got worn out because for the first time I was doing such an arduous activity as in classes under a monitor. However, being under supervision was a strength for me to push myself forward to do something challenging. For me, the difficult parts were breathing and coordinating body movements with it so in order to develop my breathing process, I tried to breathe in from my mouth while my head was up and breathe out through my nose underwater, as instructed. This slightly helped me not swallow water and focus on my breathing as well as body movements better.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Showing commitment and perseverance is important to know where you stand in a particular activity and personally, for me, it is not easy to commit to things. Nevertheless, as I mentioned earlier, I was always passionate to learn about swimming but I could not join swimming classes while the school was on, so I decided to join during the holidays so that I can give my full commitment to it. Majorly I’ve attended all the classes with the goal to become more fit and enjoy my vacation time with active engagement in swimming. I stayed committed to swimming by demonstrating the learner profile attribute “balanced” as I did not only do swimming but also prepared for my 12th grade by studying during the vacation. This way, I managed to escape boredom by studying which automatically made me want to do some leisure activity like swimming, therefore, I was interested to attend the swimming classes on regular basis.

Final takeaway:

Overall, swimming brought a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment to me because of my keen interest and eagerness to learn it. Swimming is useful to build endurance and provides a full-body workout. Swimming helped me to learn that in any physical activity, not only do body movements play the prime role to do it correctly but breathing and mindfulness also add to the desired outcome of physical performance.
