Financial market comprises of broadly several types of marketplace where the trading of securities occurs like forex market, stock market, etc. These markets are crucial for the smooth operation of a economy and also a great platform to one’s diversify income streams and/or investment portfolio. As a result, as from the past year as my interest in economics, statistics, etc. is increasing but however I wasn’t able to about financial markets due to the never-ending stream of assignments and examinations.
Hence due to CAS, I had the opportunity to learn about financial markets through Varsity (by Zerodha) which is a platform as one of the largest financial education resources on the web. I dedicated a whole weak to complete the first 5 modules: Stock Market Basics, Technical Analysis, Futures Trading, Options Trading, and Fundamental Analysis on Varsity. This meant I completed around 74 chapters and reading around 10 chapters per day and on the end of the week (10/5/22) attempting a certification exam for each module.
As a result, during the formal training I exhibited learner profiles, specifically curiosity, knowledgeable, thinker, and balanced. I exhibited curiosity to learn about financial markets and acquired the necessary skills to conduct inquiry and research, then I exhibited knowledgeable as during and after completing the chapters, modules, quizzes and exams I learned something new each day hence I gained knowledge and became more knowledgeable. I exhibited thinker like critical thinking skills to analyze the graph, the data, etc. during the quizzes and certification exams. Lastly, I exhibited balanced as during the 1 week period in my vacation, I had to tweak my timetable and balance this course daily with my leisure time, internship time and study time.
Adding on, the learning outcomes I demonstrated was L1, L2, and L4 as I identified my strength and weakness with the help of my interest that my weakness was while using various technical indicators while my strengths were financial statements. My strengths and weaknesses made me recognize my areas for growth as I worked more on the area I was weak in and finally developed a good understanding. Then doing this course was slightly challenging as well as I had to learn about graphs, terminologies which I had never seen before and I had to learn mathematical algorithms, financial indicators, data analysis etc. which was very much new for me as it was never taught in school yet. Hence this course required a lot of daily commitment and perseverance by re-reading things I didn’t understood again and by practicing.
All in all, in the end it made me feel more confident about myself to learn completely new skills like financial literacy, statistical and data analysis from financial graphs while I also improved my critical thinking skills and self-management skills by adjusting my timetable and managing my time for the course for a week. Also I feel positive as these skills will definitely help me a lot in the future. Below are the evidences;
