Charitable frisbee tournament(CAS experience activity)

Activity and service.

During the lockdown, most of us did little to no physical activity. This has had a negative impact on my health which should not be the case as sports are an important aspect of my life. So to get back on track this tournament was a benchmark test for me to see how much have my physical abilities declined. Moreover, it would increase my coordination skills as frisbee is a team sport.

LO1 :

Identify your own strengths and develop areas for growth.

Strengths Weaknesses
CoordinationBackhand throw
Forehand throwAccuracy
BalanceEndurance
JumpNervousness
Speed

LO2 :

Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

In this tournament I had to mark faster opponents than me, these opponents tested my physical abilities to the limit so in order to mark them properly I had to use my game sense. I marked deep players (the ones to aim to score the point) from behind so that they can’t reach the end zone before me and potentially score. Moreover, I marked the disc handlers from ahead as I knew they would not go to the endzone leading to me stopping them from playmaking. These improvisations improved my game sense and taught me that my mental and physical abilities are both equally important in order to give my best.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

This learning outcome was an obvious one as frisbee is a team sport. Participation in team sports allows me to make lasting friendships, develop communication skills, feel a sense of community, and learn to respect my teammates, I was the team captain so I had to consider everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. If I was not aware of my teammate’s abilities we would not have won the tournament. Working collaboratively and open-mindedly helped our team win the trophy because with mixed opinions and grudges teamwork is not possible.

My takeaway :

After the tournament my takeaway was that I enhanced my learner profiles; open-minded and communicator as frisbee being a team sport communication was necessary to win the tournament which we did! Moreover as I was an open-minded captain it boosted the morale of my teammates and we did not face any internal fights,
