Volunteering for Project Crumple | Service & Activity

LO’s: 2,4,5,6 and 7

Crumple, an event held by a few of my friends. The event was more about Recycling paper through an affordable method and a contribution in the fight in order to save our planets. Taking this into consideration we as a team decided to recycle the paper and made a new handmade paper to give it to NGO’s or governmental school who are in need of the same. By volunteering for this event, I learn how to recycle paper and save our environment.

I was very curious about recycling paper since I haven’t tried this before. At the initial stage, It seemed to be quite complicated because it was the first time I developed a new skill and It was a whole big process where I need a lot of concentration because we need to ensure that the paper are wet properly and place it in the right order because even the slightest water-drop on the paper lead to the scrapping of the paper. However, with the help of the project in charge, I gradually learned and developed recycling paper. The major problem was that this event was quite time-consuming since we also need 24hr to dry out papers and during school hours we cannot miss our classes and focus on this event, With these constraints, our project in-charged planned to call us early-in to complete this project.

My task in this process was to put the paper mache in the water tub, then wait until it gets settles on the net, lift it up and wait until all the water pass out through the net, then I need to place the paper in a cloth and with the use of spong, I need to firmly spong out the water. This was the major process where I faced a lot of commitments since, making recycling paper need a lot of patience and concentration which I lagged during the initial stage. This process was worth it, when I actually push myself to actively involve in this process.

Here, I also demonstrated working collaboratively skills in order to make this event more successful. Working collaboratively helped us to produce a large number of papers, to date project crumple had made approximately 800 papers. Working collaboratively was one of the best teamwork, we shared some ideas and thoughts which help us to build a proper outcome. This is a product of combined efforts and teamwork.

However, This project have a major inputs towards global significance. We all know that paper has lead to climate change and pollution because, Paper making needs a lot of woods which is harmful for our enviroment and there are a lot of chemical used in order to do this process. This eco-freindly recycling paper help our enviroment to reduce pollution and have a better climate change.

In all, considering the ethics of choics and action, We see that our surrounding is surrounded by long-term health and enviroment. With this, this initative we can considered deforestation as a major problem and to reduce this we voluntered in this event, I was able to take my action as ethical and beneficial to overcome this problem.
