Bookstagram

Books have been close to my heart for a long time. They help me to escape reality and divulge into a whole new world. However, when I dove into the world of reading, I often had questions about what to read next and often wasted half my time figuring out which book I’d like. Therefore, to help people like me, I created a bookstagram account, wherein you post book reviews and suggestions to help pick my audience the book they’d enjoy.

Learning outcomes:

LO-1

I identified that I enjoyed reading books and writing reviews as well. Therefore, to put this skill to use, I started writing book reviews in a way that the audience is aware about the plot, the ratings as well as my thoughts upon it. I even started posting reels and quotes in order to engage with the audience and invoke curiosity from their side. Before I started writing reviews, I was a part of a book club. After joining the sessions, I realized that my voice matters and people will benefit from my reviews and gain a sense of clarity about what they want to read. One of my classmates even approached me to understand which books she’d like.

LO-2

Along the way, I realized that if I wanted to engage my audience, I had to start using Instagram features such as reels and stories to better understand what they want to read or their opinions on the books. Therefore, with the help of a friend who’s familiar with social media and their features, I decided to give it a go. At first, I was nervous and shy about shooting reels, however sticking with it helped me become more confident and overcame one of the major challenges.

LO-3

Being a disorganized person, sticking with a schedule to post reviews and engage with the audience was difficult. To write reviews, you have to read books regularly. However, with the on-going assignments, summatives and studies in general, there were times when reading wasn’t the priority and that would result in long gaps. In order to overcome these situations, I started putting up interactive stories so that I don’t lose touch with the audience and may also find the time and motivation to start reading again.

LO-4

I am a person who gets bored easily and writing reviews gets caught up in the same. After a while, writing reviews felt tedious and seemed pointless. This was because building a community online is difficult and requires a lot of time and effort. I often used to get demotivated by the lack of responses, however with the help of some teachers and my friends, I decided to stick with writing and planning regularly, which shows that commitment from my side was the first step to get desired results and responses from my audience.

Learner profile attributes:

I’ll be developing ”communicator” as one of my learner profiles. As I am writing book reviews and sharing it further, with the help of social media, communication is the key. Therefore, by developing this learner profile, it will help me with better communication and improve my skills in the process.
