Reading books is important, to gain a few insights about the world around. Along with my friend, we started a Book Club in Ubuntu Academy…..this academy is all about providing knowledge to kids who are underprivileged with a minimum set of fees. The knowledge of the kids is lower compared to their age/grade. I and my friend decided to have a Book Club session, to enhance kids’ knowledge better.

Before starting, I knew that it would be a bit challenging for me since I have never handled kids and I was unsure about their power of knowledge. That being in consideration we selected a few books which will make them enjoy and can gain some confidence and concentration into the field of finding something. I ensure that I need to be lenient and friendly while going ahead with a selected book since it was me and them meeting for the first time. I made it a point and focused on the teaching part to make them more sure about my behavior and the way I teach them. While planning, I was committed to choosing ‘teaching’ because it will give me better evidence to prove my process. Hence, I improved my weakness and I expanded over strengths.

At first, It was very difficult to start off with since I have never handled a bunch of kids and have not taught them. Being a student, it was very difficult to handle the timing since we have started with a physical school. However, over here procrastination was a major part because of on date assignments and examinations still, I managed to cover all my pending sessions during my school hours in free slots to make sure I didn’t miss out on anything. I tried different techniques to make my kids more involved in the session for example various hand gestures, tone of voice, etc. I used to confidently finish all tasks needed for the process and ended up with the best session.

Working collaboratively has given me exposure on how to react with others while we manage our things collaboratively because many times there are changes that can lead to disputes among group members, but we managed to go smoothly. There were many challenges that I have tackled while selecting the books since I mentioned earlier that the level of children is lower compared to their grades. So it was a bit difficult to select the books, however, working with members helped me to find the best one.

Overall, this experience was breathtaking since I got to be involved with kids below my age and they have enjoyed it a lot. Seeing them answering my question and a small glimpse made me feel so special.
