Growing up, I was always attracted to learning visual arts and sought an opportunity to acquire professional sketching skills. Charcoal sketching always intrigued me, as how beautiful can two simple shades, black and white be used in creating realistic and sensational pieces of mastery, through using light spectrums and unique black strokes. Art being one of my favorite hobbies that assisted me in relaxing my mind and helped me in self-growth, I decided to explore further into a different medium of versatile art.
Learning Outcomes achieved:
LOR 1:Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
My strength in this activity was that I was familiar with contrasting techniques and mediums of arts, hence it was easier for me to develop sketching skills and learn charcoal sketching by myself. The area of development discourse identified during the experience was that I needed improvement in my proportions scaling and required more observation skills in comparing my previous sketches designed in the beginning with the drawings that were sketched later to further work on my skills. Along with that I could progress on my toning and strokes
LOR 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills, )
The challenges that I faced during the development of my new skill was that it was challenging to stay focused all by myself and employ new strokes in my sketches and had few difficulties in retaining the proportion of the sketches. Another challenge faced by me was due to school submissions and other tasks present on hand. It was rigid to stay consistent in practice sometimes. At last the motivation and incentive to develop a new skill assisted me in completion of the process.
LOR 4: (L4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences)
Commitment was the key that led me to achieving professional skills in sketching. Even if I had other tasks to perform, I was committed to at least practice sketching a minimum of 2 to 3 sketches everyday, the end result helped me to complete the sketches and take up new challenges everyday. Hence allowing me to procure new skills.
Summing up, the overall experience of this CAS activity helped me in acquiring various learner profile attributes, such as reflective , knowledgeable ,inquirer and balanced. Knowledgeable and reflective as obtaining new skills with advanced techniques of sketches and reflecting on my mistakes and refining them. This CAS experience assisted me in developing and recognizing a new talent within me and helped me accomplish and reach a precise stage of being recognized as an intermediate sketcher but I can improve and develop in a lot of other aspects of sketching. But conclusively was an immensely enjoyable experience.
