We had to organize a farewell for our seniors which are grade 12. The farewell was on 25 February 2021. I was on the organizing committee and was looking for backstage and on-stage performances. We were having 9 people in OC team and 25-30 volunteers. This will count every aspect of CAS which is Activity, Creativity and Service. We had frequent meetings with Falguni ma’am for an update on the ongoing process. We worked very hard to make this a memorable and successful farewell party for our seniors.
In this experience, the learning outcome was LO5, Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working Collaboratively. Working with others is generally easy for me because I like to work with people and interact with them while doing any project, as I am an extrovert, I generally don’t have issues with people and rather than I collaboratively work with the team. At some point of time, it was difficult for me to work with others as there were clashes of ideas and opinions. We also had small conflicts in the process due to so many heads and volunteers who wanted to participate, but in the end we were as a team and solved our conflicts as soon as possible and made a successful evening. It is important to be able to work collaboratively others because we had limited time to prepare for the event, and if we don’t work we others we will not develop our social skills and there will be conflicts, also to complete our work quickly we will need more people and who can collaboratively work with others. The importance of teamwork or leadership in my activity was to give our work before deadline to the mentors and make the event in a smooth way. Leadership was necessary so that people don’t go off track and waste their time when not required and they could reach us if they have any queries related the event.
LO 3 was also my learning outcome, Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. We organized ourselves by making a google sheet and making different tabs for different work so that if our mentors want to look at the process and make any update they can access it. Also, we need to take a lot of permissions with mentors regarding the event so google hangouts and spreadsheet was the thing which we use to organize our plan and communicate with others. Usually, I am an organized person, I like to keep things in their proper place and organize them. Keeping this organized will help me to save my time, and enhance my self-management skills. I discovered my leadership skills because I was organizing this event in school for the first time and as I was in the OC team so supervising people who were under my task and making them do work on time showed leadership and communication skills. I think that planning or initiating anything in the future will be easier because from this experience I have learned a lot which includes how to manage people, give work on time and before the deadline. It is important to know how to plan and initiate activities so that there are no conflicts during the process and to make the event smoother and go in flow planning needs to be, also to keep things organized during the process we need to plan things accordingly.
LO 2 was also my one of the learning outcome. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. Meeting the deadlines was one of the most challenging task because we had limited time, we also had other subjects deadline and TOK submission, we weren’t given slots for preparing our farewell so that it doesn’t affect our studies and we were finding difficulty in working together as people had their schedule after school so we utilized our free slots for preparations. I have not done anything similar before so it was my first experience and I could learn a lot from this experience.
This activity brought a sense of of accomplishment and enjoyment to me because working with others was the most interesting thing for me and by getting feedbacks from teachers and our seniors we felt that it was a successful event, everything was in flow and was going perfect, the performances and efforts made by volunteers helped us a lot to make this event a memorable one. I can apply the learning from this activity in future if there is any other event that I have to organize or plan, it will help me to make a successful event.
