From the last 1-2 years, my interest in global politics, diplomacy, etc. has been exponentially increasing. Also, I wanted to further improve and gain confidence in my communication, research, and critical thinking skills.

Hence due to CAS, I had the opportunity to participate in a Model United Nations (MUN) which I wasn’t able to participate in prior to CAS due to a never-ending stream of assignments and examinations. MUN in short is an educational simulation of model UN in which students like me can learn and experience diplomacy, international relations, the United Nations, and current affairs too. I participated in a TIS MUN which is a MUN conducted by T.M Patel’s International School which lasted 2 days (5th to 6th February 2022).

By participating in the TIS MUN, I got a chance to be the delegate of Canada in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) committee. My participation in the MUN helped me to exhibit a range of learner profiles such as communication as I communicated extensively throughout the MUN with my fellow delegates, chair, etc. Then, I was knowledgeable as I portrayed my knowledge of Global Politics and also by doing research for the MUN. I even gained knowledge due to the MUN which made me more knowledgeable. Then, thinker as I did critical thinking while working on the draft resolution, debates, making points for my speeches, etc. Then, open-minded as I was open to all opinions and viewpoints on the topic of debate of my committee. Adding on, reflective as well as I reflected my prior knowledge of Global Politics and current affairs in the MUN. Then, I was an inquirer by asking tricky questions to my fellow delegates. Moreover, I was principled as well while genuinely researching and participating in the MUN, not for just the sake of doing it as I researched despite other assignments, assessments, tasks, etc. I had. Lastly, I was a bit courageous as well as I have a fear of speaking especially in front of a lot of people but due to my participation it helped me overcome my fear quite a lot and I displayed the courage to overcome my fear and participate in the MUN despite my fear.

Adding on, the learning outcomes I demonstrated was L1, L2, and L4 as I identified my strength and weakness with the help of my interest, I overcame challenges to develop new skills such as persuasion, public speaking, diplomacy, etc. and in order to achieve it, I did intense research and self-training/study for my committee, agenda, issues/disputes, Canada (the country I was appointed) and its foreign policies, etc. for 1 week prior to the MUN to polish my existing skills and develop new skills.

Overall, my participation in the TIS MUN really helped me to develop and polish my existing skills and also gain new skills while all of this was accommodated perfectly with my interest. Below is the evidence;
