In this CAS experience, I taught a 5-year-old girl how to play the keyboard from basics. As I had learned keyboard for 3 years, I had the opportunity to teach her about it. She was very interested to learn to play the keyboard and her mom had contacted me to teach her just the basics of how to play it and some theoretical parts and so, it was a great opportunity for me to reflect on my learnings. Firstly I started to teach her by teaching her the 7 notes on the keyboard in both the forms, Hindustani classical and western classical. Then to give some familiarity and to get some attachment and interest in the instrument, I taught her some basic tunes like happy birthday and twinkle twinkle. Then I also used to take regular tests to make sure she understands everything. As she was a kid, it was a bit difficult to teach her as she was getting distracted very often and was a bit too shy to talk so it took a lot of time for her to open up. I took 3 classes a week for 1 hour each as she was a kid, she couldn’t sit at a place for too long. The LO’s in focus were LO 1 & 5 which are “Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth” & “Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively”.
