Cycling (activity)

Cycling has always been a part of my life. I have been biking for more than 6 years and it has always been my favourite physical activity. But due to my heavy academic schedule and additional work, I do not have much time to ride. In addition to keeping me fit and healthy, cycling also helps me lighten up my mood. So I chose this as one of my CAS experiences and started riding again. Throughout the process, my main goal was to increase the time I could cycle. This CAS experience also helped me improve my speed. It helped me note my growth and how it has changed throughout the two months I have dedicated to improving and strengthening my cycling.

One of the challenges I faced was having a proper plan. I decided to make a proper schedule and set a regular time to practice cycling. I decided to exercise 5 days a week in the morning from 6:30 – 7:30 before getting ready for school. Having a properly timed schedule allowed me to stay focused. This helped me start my day flow and didn’t disturb any of the activities I carry out every day. Proper planning helped me kick start my day and also helped me with my time management problem. Continuing this plan for two months led me to make cycling one of my habits, and I continue after completing my CAS experience.

Committing to this activity was another obstacle I faced during the process. Before this, when I used to cycle, I would continue for a week and then skip for another week. I wasn’t consistent in my process, which led to a messed-up schedule and dulled all my motivation for commitment. But after a proper plan and being consistent for two months, I saw a drastic change. Before this, I used to cycle for 30 minutes a day but after continuing cycling for 2 months, I can easily cycle for 40-45 minutes daily and have increased my speed. Through cycling, I was able to engage with issues of global significance. I try to ride my bike for short distances or when I want to buy groceries. Even if it is minimal, I am still trying to engage myself in the issue of climate change and trying to combat it in my daily life.
