Khel Mahakumbh

Khel Mahakumbh is a district-level tournament where a lot of teams and players compete with each other in multiple sports. I was a part of the U-17 basketball team at my school.

LOs:

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
With the advice of my coach and reflecting on my own performance, I realized that my defensive skills in the game were good ( Defending the opponent from scoring a basket) however, I still needed to work on my offensive skills (Controlling the ball and scoring a basket.) In order to work on my weakness, I started practising more regularly and as a result, I also saw an improvement in my game.

LO2:Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Khel Mahakumbh had returned after almost a year because of the pandemic. During the lockdown, I was not really active at playing basketball, and hence, my game deteriorated and my fitness had also become weak. When I learned that I was a part of the team, I started working on my fitness again and started practising basketball in my free time. All this was needed to recover the skills I had lost. While playing the tournaments, I realized that the short-term practice I had done had been fruitful for me as I saw myself getting better however, I also realized that this was not my full potential as my game was much better when I regularly practice basketball. Therefore, I also got back to playing basketball regularly.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Basketball is a team game and the team we had this time was very new. We had a lot of new team members who I did not know. To work better as a team, it is vital for us to understand the strengths and weaknesses of all our team members. Because of the time constraints we had, it was tough for us to understand every team member, but working together in collaboration made it possible. As a result, we also secured the second position in the tournament.

Throughout this CAS experience, I demonstrated several Learner profiles. I was a Communicator because I effectively communicated with my team to understand everyone and collectively come up with strategies to perform better. I was also reflective because I reflected back on my skills and my game and ensured that I worked on my weaknesses.
