FS MUN 8.0

MUN or model united nation is an event mimicking the UN assembly where committees are formed to resolve ongoing international conflict. Being an IBDP Global Politics student, it was a great opportunity for me to explore more about my interest and put my knowledge and debating skills to use.

LOs:

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
After the first day of MUN, I realized that I was pretty good at the research, however, I was not able to communicate my ideas to the committee clearly because of lack of confidence. The next day, I came prepared with my speeches and arguments which boosted my confidence. I was able to communicate my points effectively to the board as a result of working on my weakness.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Since I am not a very social person, working with others was not very easy for me.MUN requires us to build a resolution paper to pass the committee. The papers propose possible solutions to the problems and are made together with the allies of the country. We were running short of time however, as a team we were able to complete the task. We divided the tasks between delegates like the format was given to one person and the introduction was given to the other. We were also supposed to gather as many signatories as possible to pass the resolution paper. This required convincing the delegates of the opposite allies which was also done by working together as a team and by putting every delegate’s strength to the best use.

This CAS experience was very memorable for me as I had a lot of fun and also learned a lot. During the event, I demonstrated the learner profile communicator since I was communicating my ideas and arguments to the entire committee. I was an inquirer because I constantly questioned myself if the argument presented in the committee was valid or not and what possible responses can it get. I was also reflective because I reflected on y performance from day 1 and worked upon the same to come out better the next day.
