CAS Experience: Word Wise

The event Word Wise by Monsoon Musing was conducted on 27 November 2021. This was a literary event where people came to recite their poems in any preferred language. As a volunteer I helped plan, make decorations and manage the event on the day. I like literature and organising events hence this event was a mode through which I showed my skills.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

This was my first experience in planning of an event, being a part of the organising committee helped me learn a lot of new skills. The main challenge in this experience was having a unique and different concept from last year but keeping the essence of Monsoon Musing. To overcome this challenge, volunteers and teachers sat together and brainstormed different themes and names for the event.

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Planning of the event was the most important part. We had to ensure that we are ready with all the decorations, flow of events and the literary work. For this we meet with teachers, added calendar updates, organised the information of the event in form of spreadsheet. This ensured that the event planning is done efficiently.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

We started our planning 1 month before the event but in between there was a 15 day holiday break for Diwali. After coming back from the vacation, we had early in’s to complete our task. I showed commitment by coming for early ins and utilising my free slots to complete the decorations.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

One of the advantages of working collaboratively is the time it takes to get things done. For this event collaboration was a must, because we had less time and more work. We divided the work equally amongst the logistics (management and decorations) and literary (reviewing the work and script writing) teams, this ensured that everyone was doing something they are skilled in.

LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Sustainability is very essential while planning any event and our entire event was based upon it. Many resources and decorations were from past events and exhibitions held in school. This ensured that all the resources are being efficiently used and minimal waste is generated.
